Students who are searching for financial aid to help them attend college might not be aware that there are scholarships for left handed people. These scholarships pay all or some of the tuition for left-handed college students. Students who are left-handed and unable to afford a college education on their own should look into these scholarships. However, as of January 2012 there is only one program that offers scholarships for being left handed.
College Scholarships For Left Handed People
Juanita College offers college scholarships for left handed people who attend their school. Left handed students may get up to $5,000 of their educational costs covered via this scholarship. Freshmen are not eligible, and students can only use this scholarship if they go to Juanita College. Students apply for this scholarship by checking off a box on their financial aid application to Juanita College stating that they are left-handed. The college then examines the academic records of all left-handed students and offers scholarships for being left handed to those students that have a high current and cumulative GPA. Preparing for the Scholarship
Students who are interested in scholarships for being left handed should prepare themselves during their freshman year of college. Students should take on leadership positions; an important part of the scholarship application process involves demonstrating your leadership abilities. Students can strengthen their leadership abilities by participating in school clubs and accepting officer positions in those clubs.
Students should also make sure that they focus on their schoolwork, as the scholarship is based on their cumulative GPA. They should aim to earn a GPA of at least 3.4 each semester. Since there are a limited number of scholarships for left handed people, however, students may want to bring their GPA up to 3.7 or higher, especially if their leadership portfolio isn’t as strong.
How to Apply
Students who are interested in college scholarships for left handed people should fill out their Federal Application for Free Student Aid (FAFSA). Since the scholarship is only given to Juanita College applicants, students should only apply if they attend Juanita College.
In addition to filling out the FAFSA, students must complete an information form for Juanita College’s Financial Aid Office. The information form asks several demographic questions. Students who want to be considered for scholarships for left handed people should pay special attention to this form. They must indicate that they are left-handed to be considered.
Students may have to prove to the Financial Aid Office’s satisfaction that they are left-handed in order to qualify for the scholarship. This shouldn’t be a problem for anyone who is left-handed; applicants just have to successfully write and complete other tasks with their left hand.
Although there is only one program offering college scholarships for left-handed people, students can use being left-handed to their advantage when applying for financial aid at other colleges. For example, they can apply to scholarship programs for students who have overcome challenges and cite being left-handed as a challenge. With a little bit of creativity, students should be able to use being left-handed to help them get the financial aid they need.
